A new study first presented at the Injury Free Coalition for Kids’ 2025 Annual Conference has now been published in Injury Epidemiology.
“Injury prevention content in social media posts by Children’s hospitals: a missed opportunity for education and advocacy” examined more than 55,000 Facebook, Instagram, and X posts from 82 U.S. children’s hospitals. Researchers found that just 7% of posts focused on pediatric injury prevention, despite preventable injuries remaining a leading cause of death and disability among children. citeturn486984view0
The study also found that hospitals affiliated with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids posted significantly more injury prevention content, underscoring the important role that dedicated injury prevention programs can play in public education and advocacy. The authors encourage children’s hospitals to make greater use of their social media reach to share timely, evidence-based safety information with families and communities.
