Beyond The Manual: Real Kids, Real Cars - A technical deep dive into Adaptive Needs Seating Systems

Friday, December 4, 2026
4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Description:

In this presentation we will unbox the truth! Conventional and Special needs car seats can be very complex, and often may fit a specific child on paper but can still fail to meet their needs in the real world. This presents unique challenges for providers and families. Securing a child with special or complex healthcare needs in th car requires more than just ticking boxes on a form. We will discuss various adaptive needs seating systems and conventional car seats, vehicle safety systems, and their strenghts and potential incompatibilities with use and installation, focusing on how a seat’s engineered design on paper changes completely during real-world installations. In this technical update we will learn about changes and updates to manuals and installation requirements as well as learn about what new systems, features and accesssories are available on the conventional and adaptive needs car seat markets.

Objectives:

-Gain a better understanding of what products are available to children and their caregivers
-Learn about challenges and incompatibilities of safety systems
-Review technical updates and changes to existing products on the market
